Our Services

    Diagnostic Evaluations

Diagnostic evaluations are best suited to the child who is having ongoing struggles with development or behavior, and you are not yet sure why these struggles are present. These evaluations are usually completed over two visits. At the end of this process, you will have an understanding of the child’s diagnosis and how to move forward with a plan in place.

    Learning Disability Evaluations

If your child has been struggling with reading, math, writing, or does well in some subjects but has difficulties in other ones, a learning disability (LD) such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, or Dyscalculia could be present. There are several different types of learning disabilities. Children with learning disabilities are a greater risk for developing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, dropping out of school or chronic underachievement. Left untreated, learning disabilities can affect every aspect of a child’s life and wellbeing. Fortunately, learning disabilities are very treatable, especially when identified early. Educational testing is completed in one session by our experienced educational diagnostician. tests will measure your child’s cognitive profile, academic strengths and weaknesses, writing skills, math skills, and reading skills. Testing for reading weaknesses specifically seen in dyslexia will be completed. A second wrap up visit is held to review results and help you understand how to hep your child be maximally successful at school.

    Medication Management

Many developmental and behavioral problems of childhood can improve with the use of medication. We provide medication consultation visits as part of a holistic treatment plan to address your child’s challenges. Between visits, we encourage families to stay in touch with the office through secure email and phone support.

    Behavior Management Sessions

There are many common childhood behavior problems that can be treated successfully by a developmental-behavioral pediatrician. Common problems such as sleep refusal, tantrums, defiance, anger outbursts, and toileting issues can be treated in our office. Dr. Zimmer will meet with you weekly, either via Telehealth or in person, to understand the problem and work on successive goals to get the behavior under control.

    Ongoing Care of Developmental-Behavioral challenges

For the child who has an established diagnosis and is in need of ongoing care for their condition, we will see your child regularly and work with families, teachers, and other caregivers to support your child’s needs.

     Michelle Zimmer, M.D., FAAP

I founded Tri-State Developmental Pediatrics in 2019 to help children and families understand and manage their child’s developmental and behavioral challenges. We treat children and teens ages 0-21 years.

We believe that with early intervention and family-centered care, children will develop their full potential in school, at home, and in their communities.

We believe in the power of prevention and that no mental health or behavioral challenge is too small to intervene.

We aim to individualize our evaluations and behavior management approach to the needs of each child. Our small practice allows us to get to know each family and provide this level of care.

We use a holistic approach to treatment of developmental and behavioral concerns; helping children build their coping/ resilience skills, teaching parents behavior management approaches, optimizing therapies and community supports, and providing medication management when deemed beneficial.
